The Project

More about this project can be found here: The Thing That Should Not Be

The Thing That Should Not Be is an interactive, 3D children’s pop-up book that comes to life as you flip through the illustrated pages.

Created by Web Design Perth based company, Lethal Digital – the original idea was to be presented to all 4 band members of Metallica before their Perth show scheduled on the 17th October 2019 at Optus Stadium. Unfortunately due to James Hetfield checking himself back into rehab, the Australian and New Zealand leg of their WorldWired Tour has been postponed.

Having designed and presented a Metallica inspired magazine to the band members in the past, Lee Rekman – Director of Lethal Digital wanted to create something a little more interactive and different.

“I wanted to create an illustrative pop-up book that Metallica fans could share with their children as a way of introducing the world’s biggest heavy metal band to a younger generation, as well as evoking their imagination at the same time.”

Although the original meeting didn’t go ahead, it would have been a shame to not share this book concept with Metallica fans around the world. Since posting these concept images online, the response has been overwhelming.

“We’ve received many offers to buy this book from fans worldwide, as well as great feedback which makes all the long hours worth it in the end. (This concept book is not for sale).”

The Thing That Should Not Be book has been posted out to the band and currently in the hands of one of the band members. Who knows what will happen, or if this concept idea will be taken on board, produced professionally and released as official merchandise. If you don’t give it a go, you’ll never know what might have been.

If you love this idea, please share with your friends and remember to tag @lethaldigital in your social media posts.
